The HEVN Story: How the Brand Actually Started
Curious how HEVN started? No burning bush, about a thousand dollars in savings, and two years of trial and error. Here is the honest founder story.
HEVN started with a quiet, stubborn thought that wouldn't leave: build a Christian clothing brand. No vision, no dream, no voice from the sky. Just a regular job I felt God asking me to quit, about a thousand dollars in savings, and a decision to go. That is the whole beginning.
Most founder stories come with a thunderclap. Mine didn't, so here is the honest version, which is kind of the point of what HEVN means anyway.
How did HEVN start?
I had a normal job. Nothing sinful, nothing dramatic, just work. Here is the part most brands won't admit. Every Christian clothing brand claims they had a burning bush moment. I didn't. I asked God, I felt something, and I chose to go. Am I a hundred percent sure it was Him? No. Maybe eighty or ninety. I think that's enough. Faith is usually a step you take before you can see the whole staircase.
What were the early days like?
Rough. I started with about a thousand dollars in savings, gone in a couple of weeks. Then came two years of trial and error. Charted out, the revenue looked like a roller coaster: up, down, never really breaking past a certain point.
I spent money a nineteen-year-old has no business spending on a business with no visible return. Constant restructuring, constant spending, but a lesson every single time, even when it was just what not to do again.
And underneath all of it sat the same questions on a loop: Is this what God wants me to do? Am I good enough? Am I meant for this? Do I even deserve this? If you have ever built something you believe God gave you, you know that loop.
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6, NIV)
That verse held me on the days the numbers didn't. The work wasn't mine to finish alone.
Why does a brand like HEVN need to exist?
Somewhere in those two years I stopped and looked hard at Christian clothing, and I saw three kinds of brands, all quietly failing Christians.
- Boomer brands: bold, cringe graphics on plastic fabric. Cheap, and honestly unwearable outside of church.
- Faceless mid-tier brands: decent quality and design, but no soul. Represent Jesus, join the family, and not much real mission underneath it.
- Big brands that lost their voice: started with heart, got large, and turned into generic Christian corporations.
What united all three: none of them were really taking care of the Christian, and none seemed to ask where the money went. I wanted a fourth kind. Christian t-shirts you would actually reach for every day, honest pricing with no cut corners, and a portion of the proceeds going to churches instead of funding someone's Bugatti. Every brand represents something. We just wanted to represent God, which is why every tee is made to be worn and talked about.
What kept me going when I wanted to quit?
Grace, mostly. The progress that exists is God's grace plus a lot of time, tears, failures, and lessons. Nothing here was built overnight, and the brand is still small. I still answer my own emails.
On the hard days I leaned on Scripture the way I would tell any saint to: not a motivational poster, but something to stand on. If you are in your own roller-coaster season, the Bible verses for strength are a good place to start. I kept going anyway, despite every reason to stop.
A reminder you can wear
If I had to put the whole story on one shirt, it would be this one. The CONQUEROR tee carries Romans 8:37:
We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)
Not because I conquered anything on my own. The verse doesn't say we are conquerors. It says more than conquerors, and only through Him who loved us. That is the only reason any of this is still standing. It is a daily way to remember whose strength you are running on. That is the idea behind wearing it to share it: the shirt starts the conversation, and you point past the fabric. T-shirts don't save souls. You will. God will, ultimately.
So that is the HEVN story so far. No burning bush, no overnight success, just a calling I am about eighty or ninety percent sure of and a decision I keep making. If you want the name itself, I wrote about what HEVN actually stands for, and you can see where it is headed across our Christian tees.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did HEVN start?
HEVN started while I (Oscar) worked a regular job and couldn't shake the thought of building a Christian clothing brand. No vision, no dramatic sign. I felt God nudging me, I prayed, and I stepped out with about a thousand dollars in savings. It was gone within weeks, and then came two years of trial and error.
Who started HEVN?
HEVN was founded by Oscar, a young Christian who wanted his closet, and other believers' closets, to genuinely represent their faith. He still answers his own customer emails. The brand is intentionally small for now, and most of the progress so far comes down to God's grace and lessons learned from failing and trying again.
Did HEVN have investors or a big launch?
No. There was no big launch, no investors, and no safety net. HEVN was bootstrapped from about a thousand dollars in personal savings that ran out fast, followed by roughly two years of trial and error and revenue that looked like a roller coaster. It grew slowly, one lesson at a time.
Why is the brand called HEVN?
The short version is that the name points to where every believer is ultimately headed, and to who we are putting on right now in Christ. There is more behind it than fits here, including the mission and the verse it is built on. The full breakdown is its own story worth reading on the journal.
What makes HEVN different from other Christian clothing brands?
Most Christian clothing is either cheap and unwearable, decent but soulless, or big and generic. HEVN was built as a fourth option that genuinely takes care of Christians: premium tees you will actually wear every day, honest pricing with no cut corners, and a real mission instead of a slogan. The goal was never just to sell shirts, but to represent God and point people toward Him.
